The gene bank of Clan MacBog has mutatedDue to the effects of global warming Grouse Eggs have failed to mature to full ripeness while the production of Glen Toxic has been severely affected by the attentions of the wayward taxman. MacBog reacts badly to interference in the supply of his staple diet and hibernated throughout 2002. The effect of hibernation is to cause a mutation in the MacBog genome, consequently his mentor has been forced to undertake cloning to secure the future of the clan. Success breeds excellence and MacBog flourishes once again. Like a caterpillar metamorphoses into an exquisite butterfly so MacBog has re-emerged, grander and larger. The effect of the cloning is to select all the dominant genes and produce a MacBog that is larger than normal (now almost 4 1/4 inches tall!). To every success story there must be a darker side mirroring life in all its manifold detail. MacBog is a clone and so there is no need to reproduce in the recommended manner; the upshot of this being that there are no Bairns, Macbog emerges fully formed. With no Bairns, Ma is devastated and refuses to appear in public. Piper pipes his mournful lament, Mooner shows his metal and Boozer simply drowns his sorrow in yet another jigger of Glen Toxic. It is rumoured, however, that their long-lost cousin, Belle (she of bounteous charm) may join the Clan during 2003. Collectors will notice that the effects of cloning have produced a more magnificent likeness of the Clan Chiefs and will no doubt rush to update their treasured possession. We have also discovered an ancestor of the Clan who has been isolated from developments that have lead to the current members being so highly civilised. He has remained hidden amongst the peat bogs of the higher pastures of the Ladder Hills, McGoolie has re-emerged in all his glory wearing traditional Highland Dress - a "Bunnet". The red hair that he sports is an indication of the purity of the gene pool that resides in this fine example of manhood. |
